How Leaders Can Turn Vulnerability into a Strength
“Stop worrying, start working!” “No excuses, just results.” “What’s the big deal” “Get it done, no matter what” “Stay strong and carry on” “Results, not reasons” “baat kam-kaam zyada!” DO DO DO…
Ever worked with leaders who use expressions like these?
Who just care about results?
In my journey as a coach, I come across leaders or their bosses who unconsciously disregard people expressing their TRUE FEELINGS of doubt, fear, or anxiety.
Rather than acknowledging and supporting these occasional vulnerable feelings, such leaders label coworkers as weak and incompetent.
This judgment is akin to a child sharing their feelings with a dismissive or critical parent. Over time, the child learns to hide their emotions.
They grow up feeling unsupported and misunderstood. This impacts their ability to handle vulnerability and the feelings of others.
👉 Actually, not everyone can handle your honesty & vulnerability!
Some people may not have the emotional capacity.
Because they might be dealing with their own struggles.
⚡ Such leaders who judge vulnerability as weakness or incompetence need to start by understanding where this bias is coming from. ⚡
🌟 They need to learn to feel their own feelings first. 🌟
Leaders who cannot tolerate the vulnerability of others and mostly prefer action and results, may be struggling within & may suffocate people from speaking up.
This causes huge communication gaps.
It can ruin the entire organizational culture.
☀ So feeling the feelings is truly healing! It’s essential to express and process emotions. It makes us stronger – not weaker!
In life, VULNERABILITY is a strength.
It shows courage and authenticity.
But BE CAREFUL who you share it with. 🙂
👉 Seek support from those who are strong and empathetic. People who understand and appreciate your openness.
Surround yourself with those who lift you up. 🤗
Remember, it’s okay to be selective.
Protect your energy and well-being.
Cherish those who truly listen to you.
So what do you do with your true feelings or with those of others?
Would love to know your thoughts on this…
