Letting Go:
An Essential Practice for Strong and Resilient Leaders
A monkey was exploring a campsite for food when it came across a burning coal from a recent camp fire.
Curious, it reached out and touched the coal thinking it is food. But it burnt its hand.
In a fit of anger, the monkey picked up the coal to throw it, but in doing so, it burnt its hand even more severely.
Furious and not understanding why it hurt so much, the monkey tried to crush the coal with all its might, hoping to destroy what had hurt it.
It wouldn’t let go of the coal in revenge.
So the coal ended up severely burning both its hands and causing unending agony.
Sometimes, in our anger and frustration, we react impulsively to hurt those we think have wronged us.
Sometimes we are not able to let go of hurt and anger for several years or even our entire life.
Arn’t we hurting (burning) our own selves in the process?
I know it’s not easy. But who are we hurting by not letting-go?
In life, it is often better to ignore certain situations, overlook people’s behaviors, dismiss harsh words and let go of misdeeds done to you. Especially if nothing can be done now.
So is “letting-go” even an option?
– The air we breathe in has to be expelled out continuously to keep us alive.
– The food we eat needs to be digested and expelled from our bodies within 24 hours, or we will fall ill.
– The water we drink passes through our system and is expelled in about 4 hours, or we will fall ill.
So why let hate, anger or grudges occupy our minds, take over our lives and make us ill?
Holding onto anger and resentment is like carrying a piece of burning coal and trying to crush it because it gave us pain.
But it will only burn us back till we open our palms and let it drop. Take help if you can’t but no point holding on to it.
Letting go allows us to feel lighter, making room for joy and peace to enter our lives.
There is no point filling a pot with fresh water if it is full of muck. It will make even fresh water mucky.
So let go of the load that you are carrying within and you will feel much lighter.
Breathe-in peace & joy!
Breathe-out hate and anger!!
Be light and enjoy #ABrighterLife…
So what are you finding difficult to let go?
In what ways is it affecting your life?
What will you let-go of today & how?
